Self Acceptance

Acceptance of self can be one of the hardest things to do. We can play too big or too small to make others feel comfortable around us. The key is to see yourself as God sees you knowing with flaws and all you are enough. God loves you, so today take some time and do something you would love to do and show some love to yourself, accepting all of who you are, because it's great! #Coreworkulm #Overflow2015

The Benefits of Being THOT!

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:13

Urban culture has given names for different people and their state in life. One that has taken off lately is THOT. People have used it on reality tv and street corners all across the nation. This term is used as a put-down, but I think we should take this word and make it positive. So, I'm going to discuss 3 benefits of being THOT.

1. Relentless- When you are THOT you have to keep going, you have to know your goal and be unstoppable until you reach it. A good THOT keeps going and doesn't take no for an answer. Setbacks become spring boards for greatness.

2. Recognize other THOT's around you- Learn to gravitate to those of like mind. You can accomplish more when you team up with people who are trying to accomplish the same kind of goals as you. The synergy of the group helps you to reach your goals and have accountability in the process.

3. Remember- Take the time to remember where you have come from. See the advances you have made and celebrate milestones along the way. This helps with momentum and finishing well. Nothing is more harmful to THOT than hitting a roadblock and giving up before you reach your desired destination.

So, being THOT can have its benefits. You learn how to keep going, use accountability, and celebrate small victories along the way. Urban culture has said that THOT is- That (garden tool) Over There. But, I believe the real meaning of THOT is- That Hustler Over There. So, stand, and when you have done all, stand again dressed in your armor ready for battle against anything or anyone that's trying keep you from living your best life.

Life Lessons Learned in 2014!

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

On this journey of life we can think we got it made and have arrived at our best selves. But life has a funny way of reminding us we are still in process. In 2014 I learned some key lessons that will bless me for years to come. We have heard the scripture many times that God will work it out for our good. But, this came alive for me in many ways. I hope by me sharing how revelation came to me, you will be encouraged when you are faced with your challenging areas. Know that you are not alone and it will work out for your good. Here are 3 Life Lessons Learned in 2014:

  1. Let go of people and places that no longer serve you- Sometimes we want to hold on to people who aren't holding onto us. We want the best for them, we spend countless hours praying, speaking positive affirmations over them, encouraging them, and most of all enabling them. But, I learned that only when we step back and allow God to be their saviour can real transformation occur in their lives. I had to let go of some people, I had to let go of some familiar places that kept me stuck in a cycle of co-dependence, shame, guilt, and toxicity. It was hard and I had to grieve my losses, but they were replaced with healthier, affirming people and places in my life.
  2. Give people the benefit of the doubt- I was already using this lesson in my life, but was shocked when I realized there was an area it was not being utilized. The place of previous hurt. I realized I was judging and viewing some in an old lens. It was those who represented a previous hurt, disappointment, betrayal or abandonment. It wasn't unforgiveness I was experiencing, but thinking they were still in a place they had long departed from. This lesson was hard because sometimes we also judge people based on other peoples experiences with them, instead of using our own judgment and current encounter with them. People grow all the time. I'm not the person I was years ago. Even when we exhibit similar behaviours it doesn't mean we are the same.
  3. Perception is everything- How we see a thing, is how it will be for us. We have to learn to gather all the evidence and check things out before jumping to conclusions and assumptions. We have to keep our mouths off of situations and people without all the facts. It doesn't matter who tells you something, verify before you pass judgment or an opionion. It will save you a lot of pain, drama, and confusion.
As I grew to new levels in 2014, I hope you did also. If not, I hope you can take my words of wisdom to guide you in 2015. Have a great year as you experience the #Overflow2015!

4 Mistakes to Avoid When Setting Your 2015 Goals!

We are in the first month of 2015 and some have already set their 2015 goals and others may be in the process or haven't started yet. I wanted to give you 4 mistakes to avoid when setting your goals for 2015:

  1. Setting Other People's Goals- Make sure you are setting the goals you plan on reaching. You may have family and friends who think you should set certain goals, but remember you are the one doing the work and have to achieve them. Set realistic goals that you desire.
  2. Not Reviewing Your Progress- Take the time to review what you have accomplished is a good way to see where you need to go and a great source of encouragement. This is also a good time to review your short term goals and celebrate victories and accomplishments. Update your goals and amend goals that no longer work for you.
  3. Setting "Negative" Goals- Negative goals can put you in the wrong mindset for success. Reframe your goals in a positive light and tone to ensure you have the energy, drive, and correct mindset to see them through.
  4. Setting too Many Goals- Use quality not quantity rule when setting goals. Write out your 6 month and then 12 month goals and then narrow them down to 3. Once you have accomplished those, then move down your list to the next set of goals.
Setting goals is a good way to stay focused and have accountability. Don't shy away from making goals. It's a good way to track your progress and reach your desired results.
Let the planning begin...
